Azerbaijan, Iran review progress on North–South Transport Corridor
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev held a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, to discuss the development of the North–South International Transport Corridor and other key areas of cooperation.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing expansion of bilateral relations and discussed prospects for strengthening collaboration in transport, transit, energy, and customs, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
During the talks, it was noted that cargo traffic along the North–South corridor increased by 8.3% in the first nine months of 2025, with road freight accounting for 10.4% and rail transport for 2% of the total.
The officials underscored the importance of coordinated efforts to expand infrastructure along the route and to ensure the steady growth of freight movement. In this context, they highlighted the need to complete the construction of the Southern Freight Terminal — a key component of the corridor — and discussed measures for the full commissioning of the newly built road bridge over the Astarachay River.
Both sides also emphasised the significance of the ongoing Azerbaijan–Iran–Russia meeting in Baku, noting its role in deepening trade, economic, transport, and energy cooperation among the three countries.
