Azerbaijan, Iran eye faster, smarter trade routes in regional cooperation push PHOTO
Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Shahin Baghirov, met with Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, for high-level discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral and regional economic collaboration.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between the customs authorities of both countries, with particular attention to bolstering economic ties and facilitating increased bilateral trade. Both parties underscored the pivotal role of customs services in streamlining cross-border commerce and improving the efficiency of goods movement, Caliber.Az reports.
A key topic of discussion was the ongoing trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia across several strategic domains, including transport, energy, and customs. The officials exchanged views on how to further harmonize policies and mechanisms in these sectors to unlock greater regional connectivity.
The two sides highlighted the strategic importance of enhancing the appeal of transport corridors running through Azerbaijani and Iranian territory. They called for the acceleration and simplification of international trade and transit procedures, along with expanded data sharing and coordination between their respective customs agencies.
