Azerbaijan, Iran strengthen veterinary cooperation with new MoU on animal health
On April 30, 2025, the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan (FSAA) and Iran's Veterinary Organisation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in addressing transboundary animal diseases.
The MoU was signed by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzana Sadiq, Caliber.Az reports, citing the agency.
The agreement outlines joint efforts between the FSAA and the Iranian Veterinary Organisation to implement measures for controlling and preventing transboundary animal diseases in areas along the borders of both countries. These measures will focus on ensuring public health and environmental safety in both nations.
Key actions include implementing epizootic disease control programs, conducting regular monitoring, performing vaccinations, and other related veterinary measures.
In addition to these immediate actions, the MoU calls for expanded cooperation and exchange of experience in veterinary border control procedures. A significant part of the agreement involves the formation of joint working groups consisting of experts and representatives from both organisations. These groups will collaborate on a variety of tasks, including conducting joint research, organising training sessions, and holding exercises related to the laboratory diagnosis of animal diseases.
Further details of the MoU include the exchange of information between the two organisations and the organisation of regular meetings to monitor the progress of the collaborative efforts in veterinary control and disease prevention. Through this partnership, both countries aim to enhance their veterinary capabilities and ensure better management of animal health at the borders.
