Azerbaijan, Ireland discuss expansion of diaspora cooperation

24 May 2026 16:47

Azerbaijan and Ireland have discussed ways to expand cooperation in diaspora-related areas during a series of meetings held as part of a visit by Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora.

Chairman Fuad Muradov met with Karl Gardner, Director of the Department for Irish Citizens Abroad at Ireland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The talks focused on the history of friendly relations between the two countries and the growing role of diaspora communities in strengthening bilateral ties.

Muradov highlighted that Azerbaijan’s diaspora policy, implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, contributes to strengthening solidarity among Azerbaijanis worldwide and enhancing the country’s international standing.

Gardner, in turn, emphasized the importance of studying the experience of Azerbaijani Houses abroad and the Sunday schools operating under them.

Separately, Muradov met with a delegation led by Tony McCormack, head of the Irish–Azerbaijani parliamentary friendship group. The sides discussed potential joint projects in diaspora engagement and the importance of further strengthening strategic cooperation.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing attention given to the activities of the Azerbaijani community in Ireland and the strong ties established with Irish citizens who maintain friendly attitudes toward the country.

McCormack, in turn, said that bilateral meetings will boost the further expansion of cooperation and that the diaspora plays an important role in this process.
