Azerbaijan, Italy keen to strengthen interparliamentary ties

23 December 2024 19:54

Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament), Sahiba Gafarova, has met with Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Luca Di Gianfrancesco, to discuss the development of interparliamentary relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the sides hailed the current state of bilateral relations, highlighting the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy in the energy and economic sectors, which has created new opportunities for collaboration in other areas, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, which both parties recognized as essential for deepening the relationship between nations that share common values.

Gafarova emphasized the importance of reciprocal visits in advancing cooperation, referencing her own official visit to Italy as a key factor in enhancing the partnership.

Gafarova also noted the involvement of Italian parliamentarians in Azerbaijan's presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024, as well as their participation in the COP29 Parliamentary Meeting in Baku.

Ambassador Gianfrancesco commended Azerbaijan for the success of COP29, particularly highlighting the Italian delegation's participation, led by the Prime Minister. He underscored Italy's commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan, assuring that the Italian Embassy will continue to actively support and contribute to the development of these ties.
