Azerbaijan, Japan strengthen economic ties, trade turnover reaches $428 million
Japan has emerged as one of Azerbaijan’s leading trade partners, with trade turnover between the two nations reaching a total of $428 million in 2024, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said.
In his remarks at a reception in Baku marking the birthday of Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Mammadov highlighted the growing economic, energy, investment, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
"Our countries are successfully developing cooperation in various spheres, including the economy, energy, investment, and humanitarian fields. Japanese companies are actively involved in key projects in Azerbaijan, particularly in rehabilitation efforts in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions," Mammadov said.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also noted the significant presence of Japanese businesses in Azerbaijan, with 47 Japanese companies currently operating in sectors such as industry, construction, trade, and agriculture.
The reception was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Katsuya Watanabe, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan, members of the National Assembly and other officials.
His Majesty Naruhito, the 126th Emperor of Japan, was born on February 23, 1960. He ascended the throne on May 1, 2019.
