Azerbaijan’s historic entry into D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation marks key milestone
Azerbaijan has officially joined the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation as its ninth member, marking a major milestone in the organisation’s efforts to achieve the goals outlined in its charter.
This development is expected to unlock new opportunities for cooperation among the member states and enhance economic ties across the region, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The news was confirmed by the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, with the Azerbaijani government submitting the organisation’s charter to the D-8 Secretariat in Istanbul, Türkiye, on March 19.
This formal submission paves the way for Azerbaijan’s active participation in the organisation’s activities. Azerbaijan’s membership was officially approved during the 11th D-8 Summit held in Cairo, Egypt, on December 19, 2024.
The decision was reached through a unanimous vote by the member countries, highlighting the strong support for Azerbaijan’s inclusion in the group. Following the summit’s decision, Azerbaijan began the process of ratifying the D-8 charter.
On March 7, 2025, Azerbaijani parliament passed the necessary legislation, which was then signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, finalising the country’s membership.
