Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan to finalize military intelligence cooperation agreement

23 July 2024 15:34

Kazakhstan has released a draft decree to approve an agreement with Azerbaijan on cooperation in the field of military intelligence.

The draft document is available on Kazakhstan's "Open Normative-Legal Acts" portal, which publishes draft laws for public discussion, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.

The draft outlines several forms of cooperation between the two countries:

  1. Official visits by the heads of the authorized bodies and working meetings of experts.
  2. Mutual exchange of military intelligence information on:
    • Terrorist and extremist organizations.
    • Military and political events of mutual interest.
  3. Joint combat training activities on each state's territory for personnel of the authorized bodies, in accordance with Kazakhstan's national legislation.

The document specifies that the exchange, use, and protection of classified information will be based on a separate international treaty on the mutual protection of classified information. It emphasizes that the information obtained through this cooperation will not be used to the detriment of the party that provided it.

"The information exchanged under the agreement cannot be disclosed, provided, or transferred to a third party without the written consent of the party that supplied it," the document states.

The agreement is set to be concluded for a duration of five years.
