Azerbaijan, Kenya seek to deepen parliamentary ties, bilateral cooperation

Azerbaijan and Kenya have discussed the current trajectory of bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kenya Sultan Hajiyev and Speaker of Kenya’s National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

During the meeting, Hajiyev highlighted recent steps to expand parliamentary engagement between the two countries, noting the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group with Azerbaijan in Kenya’s Senate this year, as well as the creation of a working group on inter-parliamentary relations with Kenya in Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis.

The ambassador expressed hope that a similar working group would soon be formed in Kenya’s National Assembly, further enhancing institutional links between the two parliaments.

Hajiyev also stressed the importance of maintaining active cooperation at international parliamentary platforms, including within the framework of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to take place this year in Arusha, Tanzania.

Wetang’ula said there were favourable conditions for expanding cooperation between the legislative institutions of Azerbaijan and Kenya and voiced support for further strengthening parliamentary dialogue.

He also underlined the significance of Kenyan President William Ruto’s planned visit to Baku to attend the 13th session of the World Urban Forum.

The Kenyan parliamentary speaker also commended the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, initiated by Azerbaijan, and praised the role and contributions of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis in various international organisations.
