Azerbaijan: Key transit hub for trade between China, Europe Deputy Prime Minister says
Azerbaijan is emerging as a crucial transit route for cargo deliveries from China to Europe, with trade turnover between the two nations reaching $2 billion in the first half of 2024—a 21 per cent increase compared to the previous year, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev said.
His remarks were made during an event marking the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Mustafayev emphasized the rapid growth of investment cooperation, highlighting that 256 commercial entities with Chinese investments are currently operating in Azerbaijan. He assured continued support for Chinese companies to leverage the favorable business environment in the country.
"Transit transportation stands out as a key area of collaboration between our countries," Mustafayev stated.
He detailed how Azerbaijan has implemented extensive transport infrastructure projects to enhance its transit capabilities. Notable developments include the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which collectively offer the most efficient routes for transporting goods between China and Europe. This has positioned Azerbaijan as a major transport hub in the region.
Additionally, Mustafayev noted the presence of six Azerbaijani trading houses and three wine houses in China, reinforcing the growing economic ties.
