Official: Azerbaijan–Iran border upgrades to allow 1,000 trucks daily
Infrastructure on the Azerbaijan–Iran border will be capable of processing up to 1,000 freight trucks per day, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev has said.
At a meeting of the Azerbaijan–Russia Business Council held in Baku, Mustafayev noted that earlier he had inspected key components of new branches of the North–South and East–West international transport corridors together with a Russian delegation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
These included a highway leading towards the settlement of Aghband, a road bridge, and new border crossing points currently under construction on the Azerbaijan–Iran frontier.
“The infrastructure will ensure a throughput capacity of up to 1,000 freight vehicles per day,” Mustafayev said.
The Aghband Bridge and the Horadiz–Aghband railway form part of a wider plan to enhance transport links and deepen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to serve as an important corridor for more efficient movement of goods and passengers, improving bilateral trade and connectivity between the two countries.
