Azerbaijan, Morocco advance talks on air connectivity deal
Azerbaijan and Morocco have discussed the launch of regular direct flights between the two countries, as part of broader efforts to expand cooperation in civil aviation and transport.
Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Samir Mammadov took part in the 5th Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), held in Morocco from April 13 to 16, 2026.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the Azerbaijani delegation presented updates on the country’s aviation sector, including ongoing cooperation with ICAO. This included participation in the ACT-SAF programme on sustainable aviation fuel and initiatives linked to the “Green Airport Alat” project.
During the visit, a training services agreement was also signed between ICAO and Azerbaijan’s State Civil Aviation Agency.
Separately, the Azerbaijani delegation met Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh. The two sides exchanged views on areas of mutual interest in transport and explored prospects for deeper cooperation.
Both sides underlined the importance of launching regular air services and developing air connectivity between Azerbaijan and Morocco. They also agreed on the need to sign a future intergovernmental air services agreement, which would establish a legal framework for civil aviation cooperation between the two countries.
