Azerbaijan laid foundation for regional stability - foreign minister

15 March 2024 11:45

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has said that Azerbaijan laid the foundation for stability in the region as he made opening remarks at the trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian foreign ministers in Baku.

“President Ilham Aliyev attaches special importance to Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye regional cooperation,” the minister said, APA reports.

He noted that by putting an end to the occupation, Azerbaijan laid the foundation for peace and stability in the region.

Bayramov emphasized that the three countries enjoy successful regional economic cooperation, major economic projects of regional and global importance are being implemented, and the implemented projects contribute to trade ties between East and West.

The minister added that the successful cooperation between the countries reflects the will of the people.

FM Bayramov underlined that President Ilham Aliyev attaches special importance to regional cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.

The foreign minister also pointed to Azerbaijan’s commitment to restoring peace in the region.

“Azerbaijan consistently demonstrates political will and supports intensive direct negotiations and expects to sign a peace treaty with Armenia as soon as possible,” the FM told the 9th trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian foreign ministers.

FM Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan is still committed to the restoration of peace in the region.

He pointed out that the meetings were recently held at the level of the leaders of the two countries, as well as at the level of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"These meetings provide a basis for development [in promoting a peace treaty] and simplicity of approach to political issues of the two countries," Bayramov said.

The minister expressed Azerbaijan’s hope that international actors will support direct bilateral negotiations fairly and impartially.

Following the meeting, Bayramov highlighted the new agreements reached on the sidelines of the Azerbaijani-Turkish-Georgian foreign ministers' meeting.

“A triangle of cooperation - Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia - has been shaped in the Caspian and Black Sea basins,” Bayramov told a joint press conference with the Turkish and Georgian FMs.

The minister emphasized that the Southern Gas Corridor, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars have already become a reality and provide great opportunities for numerous partners.

"Today we have also agreed to create wider transport hubs using the transit potential of our country. We will also make great joint strides in the field of alternative energy."
