Azerbaijan, Laos discuss expanding cooperation in Bangkok
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Laotian counterpart Thongsavanh Phomvihane on the sidelines of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok.
According to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties as both sides marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and welcomed the recent holding of their first political consultations, Caliber.Az reports.
The ministers reviewed current relations and discussed prospects for expanding cooperation across political, economic, humanitarian, transport, and logistics sectors. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of the Middle Corridor as a key trade and connectivity route.
Phomvihane highlighted the significance of educational cooperation and announced the establishment of an Azerbaijan–Laos Friendship Association, bringing together Laotian graduates who studied in Baku.
The two sides also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and discussed opportunities for collaboration within international frameworks, including the Non-Aligned Movement and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, of which Laos is a member.
