Azerbaijan, Latvia to sign consular cooperation deal

21 April 2026 14:41

Azerbaijan and Latvia are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in consular affairs, aimed at strengthening collaboration in the exchange of consular information and experience.

The agreement will be signed during the official visit of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs to Azerbaijan from April 21 to 23, 2026, according to Latvia’s Foreign Ministry.

Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže will accompany the president during the visit and is scheduled to take part in the official welcoming ceremony and high-level talks.

Meetings are planned with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova.

Braže will also attend the opening of the Latvia–Azerbaijan Business Forum and meet representatives of the Latvian diaspora.

In addition, the Latvian foreign minister is expected to hold separate talks with her Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.

Discussions will cover bilateral cooperation and key regional and international issues, including the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process, developments in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
