Azerbaijan, Lithuania advance political dialogue in Vilnius consultations

08 June 2026 20:26

Azerbaijan and Lithuania have held inter-ministerial political consultations in Vilnius, focusing on bilateral cooperation, regional developments and wider geopolitical dynamics in Europe and the South Caucasus.

The talks brought together Deputy Foreign Ministers Audra Plepytė and Fariz Rzayev, Caliber.Az reports, citing Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry.

Both sides reviewed prospects for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania across political, economic, cultural and educational fields. Discussions also covered engagement between the European Union and Azerbaijan, as well as coordination within international organisations.

A significant portion of the agenda was dedicated to the geopolitical situation in Europe and the South Caucasus, with both delegations exchanging views on regional stability and ongoing security challenges.

The Lithuanian side welcomed progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, expressing hope for the swift conclusion of a comprehensive peace agreement that would support long-term stability in the region.

Audra Plepytė also highlighted Azerbaijan’s role in supporting Ukraine in the energy sector, underlining the importance of sustained assistance to Kyiv to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as broader European security.
