Azerbaijan maintains invitation to Armenia for upcoming 3+3 meeting
Azerbaijan has urged Armenia to take part in the forthcoming session of the regional 3+3 format, proposing that the meeting be held initially on Azerbaijani soil, followed by a subsequent session in Armenia. Azerbaijani officials maintain that, given the prevailing regional circumstances, there is no justification for Yerevan to decline the proposal.
Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks during a joint press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
FM Bayramov noted that the 3+3 format was initiated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and highlighted that three meetings have already taken place — in Russia, Iran, and Türkiye in 2024.
“Following the meeting in Türkiye, our delegation proposed holding the next session in Azerbaijan. We also indicated that after organizing the meeting in Azerbaijan, we would agree to hold the subsequent session in Armenia. Unfortunately, no agreement was reached — the Armenian side did not agree to this sequence,” Bayramov said.
The minister underscored that the regional situation has shifted significantly, with delegations from Azerbaijan and Armenia already participating in meetings on each other’s territories.
“Given this, we see no reason for Armenia to reject our proposal. At least, we do not see any logic in doing so. The proposal remains in effect,” he added.
Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile, expressed Iran’s support for developing relations between Baku and Yerevan, endorsing the idea of holding the 3+3 meetings first in Azerbaijan, followed by Armenia.
