Azerbaijan only country in world where Jews not repressed, says Rabbi

Azerbaijan is the only country in the world where Jews were not repressed, said the Rabbi of the Jewish community of Frankfurt, President of the Conference of Orthodox Rabbis of Germany Avichai Apel.

According to him, Jews have lived as a family for many centuries in Azerbaijan where Muslims make up the majority of the population.

"Recently, an Azerbaijani embassy was opened in Israel. This will be the best example for many countries," he said in front of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, at an event dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, Azertag reports.

Since October 2022, the Council of Europe has decided to annually celebrate January 27 as Holocaust Remembrance Day.
