Azerbaijan, OSCE exchange views on situation in South Caucasus
Azerbaijani Speaker Sahiba Gafarova has met a delegation led by OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pia Kauma.
“During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the situation in the South Caucasus. Gafarova informed the delegation about the 30-year-long occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and its consequences, and the policy of ethnic cleansing pursued by Armenia,” the press service of the Azerbaijani parliament told Caliber.Az.
She noted that after the liberation of its territories from occupation in 2020, Azerbaijan put forward a peace agenda based on mutual respect for the five principles of international law.
Gafarova regretted that Armenia did not demonstrate the political will necessary to achieve peace, did not fulfill its obligations arising from the statement dated November 10, 2020, and continued committing military-political provocations against Azerbaijan.
The Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament informed about the anti-terrorism measures taken by the Azerbaijani army in September 2023, noting that they were carried out in full compliance with international law.
Gafarova also spoke about the measures proposed by Azerbaijan in connection with the reintegration of the Armenian residents of Karabakh.
The views on the OSCE PA’s possible role in establishing trust between the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations were also expressed during the meeting.
The sides also discussed cooperation issues between the Azerbaijani parliament and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
