Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Türkiye strengthen parliamentary ties at Islamabad trilateral meeting
The 3rd trilateral meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Türkiye was inaugurated in Islamabad on October 13.
The event was attended by Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmus, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the links between peace and development, saying: “Peace, security, and progress are factors that are closely intertwined. Today, Azerbaijan once again confirms this with its efforts, as we celebrate the 5th anniversary of the 44-day Patriotic War.”
She recalled that Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity in 2020 and its sovereignty in 2023, laying the groundwork for peace. “Immediately after the war, it was the victorious Azerbaijan that proposed a peace initiative, putting forward the key principles of peace and the draft peace treaty,” Gafarova added.
The Azerbaijani Speaker also underlined the historical and cultural ties between the three countries. “The cooperation among the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye is founded on the brotherhood, unity, and solidarity of our countries and peoples, which share common history, culture, religious and spiritual values. Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye have always stood by and supported each other,” she said.
Gafarova further acknowledged the ongoing support of Türkiye and Pakistan since the 44-day Patriotic War. “The Azerbaijani people will always remember the political and moral support extended by Türkiye and Pakistan since the first days of the 44-day Patriotic War. Azerbaijan has likewise consistently supported Türkiye and Pakistan in all matters,” she added.
Speaker Numan Kurtulmus of Türkiye congratulated Azerbaijan on progress in its peace process with Armenia.
Yusuf Raza GilaniChairman of the Senate of Pakistan, underlined the significance of the third parliamentary meeting and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the brotherly countries in the context of current geopolitical conditions, as well as the value of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.
