Azerbaijan pledges continued global engagement to strengthen peace, sustainable development

24 October 2025 21:13

Azerbaijan reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation to advance peace, dialogue, and sustainable development, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated during an event marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

Bayramov underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships, exploring new avenues of cooperation, and reaffirming a shared commitment to building “a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world for current and future generations,” Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s active role in the UN system, the minister cited the country’s non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council, participation in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), hosting of COP29, and its growing contributions to global initiatives promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

FM Bayramov also outlined Azerbaijan’s forward-looking agenda, linking urban sustainability with climate action and emphasizing the country’s role in international climate diplomacy through initiatives such as the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) and World Environment Day 2026, both scheduled to be held in Baku.

He further noted that Azerbaijan successfully completed the 2021–2025 Azerbaijan–UN Cooperation Framework on Sustainable Development and described the newly signed 2026–2030 framework as marking “the next phase in Azerbaijan–UN partnership.”

Transitioning from global cooperation to regional peace efforts, Bayramov also addressed recent developments in the South Caucasus. Commenting on the outcomes of the Washington Summit between Azerbaijan and Armenia, he said that the agreements reached, including a joint declaration, represent “an important milestone in advancing the peace process in the region.”

Following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, Bayramov emphasized that the country is undertaking extensive reconstruction and rehabilitation in the liberated territories while taking significant steps to foster stability and cooperation across the South Caucasus.
