25 November 2025 12:27

The inaugural meeting of the Azerbaijan–Qatar Joint Business Council was held in Doha on the sidelines of the 4th meeting of the Joint Economic, Trade and Technical Commission between the two countries.

The session was co-chaired by Mohammed bin Jawhar Al-Mohammed, Qatar Chamber Board Member and Chairman of the Qatari side, and Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) and Head of the Azerbaijani side. Members of both delegations were also in attendance, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The meeting was joined by Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs; Kamaladdin Heydarov, Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan; and Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari, Second Vice-Chairman of Qatar Chamber.

Discussions centered on the extensive cooperation opportunities for Qatari and Azerbaijani businesses across multiple sectors, along with an overview of the investment landscapes and market prospects available to companies in both countries.

Addressing the meeting, Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari underlined the significance of the newly formed Council, stating that it “confirms the common keenness of both sides to strengthen economic ties and open broader horizons for cooperation in various commercial and investment sectors,” noting that bilateral relations “have witnessed tangible development over the past years.”

He emphasized that the Joint Council is “not just a platform for consultation, but rather an effective bridge to connect the business community in the two countries, enabling companies to exchange experiences, explore promising opportunities, and build strategic partnerships that serve the interests of the private sector and support joint economic development.”

For his part, Orkhan Mammadov described the meeting as “an important step in Qatar–Azerbaijan economic relations,” stressing that both sides aim to deepen collaboration and partnership across several priority sectors, “most notably agriculture, tourism, technology, and others.”

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations, Kamaladdin Heydarov, remarked that the first meeting of the Joint Business Council marks “a new boost to the friendship and mutual trust between the two countries—an advancement that will positively impact the business community, particularly the private sector.”

During the session, both sides delivered presentations outlining investment opportunities in their respective markets. Nasser Al-Kaabi from the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (Invest Qatar) presented an overview of Qatar’s investment climate, while Aisha Al Mulla from Qatar Tourism highlighted prospects within the country’s tourism sector.

The Azerbaijani delegation showcased a range of investment opportunities in Azerbaijan, including those within the Alat Free Economic Zone.
