Azerbaijan reaffirms support for refugee rights on World Refugee Day
Azerbaijan has marked World Refugee Day with a renewed expression of solidarity with forcibly displaced people worldwide.
In a statement published on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscored the country’s commitment to international efforts to protect the rights, safety, and dignity of refugees, Caliber.Az reports.
“On the occasion of World Refugee Day, we express solidarity with all forcibly displaced persons across the globe,” the Ministry said.
It also highlighted Azerbaijan’s own experience with displacement, referring to the mass exodus of Azerbaijanis resulting from past regional conflicts.
“As a country that has experienced mass displacement of Azerbaijanis, Azerbaijan remains committed to international efforts aimed at protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of refugees,” the statement continued.
World Refugee Day, observed annually on June 20, is designated by the United Nations to honour the strength and resilience of refugees around the world and to raise awareness of their plight.
