Azerbaijan, Romania discuss expanding cooperation in energy, education, investment
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Romania, Qudsi Osmanov, met with Iasi Mayor Mihai Chirica to discuss deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Romania, with a focus on energy, food exports, defence, and educational partnerships.
During the meeting, Mayor Chirica emphasised Azerbaijan’s strategic importance in the region and expressed interest in attracting Azerbaijani investments to Iasi, highlighting the city’s rapid development and opportunities in the cultural and humanitarian sectors, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He noted that Iasi hosts five major universities with around 65,000 students, making it a key hub for academic collaboration.
Ambassador Osmanov stressed the potential for regional cooperation and invited Mayor Chirica to visit Azerbaijan. He also highlighted ongoing large-scale restoration and construction projects in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and proposed exploring a twinning agreement with a city in the Karabakh economic region.
The ambassador further expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to establish inter-university ties with Iasi.
Iasi, one of Romania’s fastest-growing cities over the past 15 years, is the country’s second-largest city after Bucharest.
