Azerbaijan, Russia focus on climate finance
President of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev has met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.

“COP29 met Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Alexei Overchuk, and the President's Advisor on Climate Change, Ruslan Edelgeriev, to discuss COP29 priorities for climate finance,” the post reads.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan and Russia discussed cooperation in the field of climate change.
According to the COP29 official X account, Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev also met with his Russian counterpart Alexander Kozlov and Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov, Caliber.Az reports.

The meeting was held to support regional and bilateral cooperation in the field of climate change and environmental protection.
“COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev met Russia’s Natural Resources and Ecology Minister Alexander Kozlov, and Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov to support regional and bilateral cooperation in the field of climate change and environmental protection,” the post reads.
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in 2024.
The decision was made at the plenary session of COP28 on December 11.
Azerbaijan confirmed the commitment to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 35 per cent by 2030, and increase this target by 40 per cent in 2050. Fulfilling the commitments under the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015 and actively working in this regard are priority issues for the government of Azerbaijan.
The Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has been held annually since 1995. The event aims to assess the progress in combatting climate change in the world.
