Azerbaijan’s deputy FM highlights energy, climate finance at UN summit

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev took part in several high-level events on the second day of the UN General Assembly’s 81st High-Level Week, focusing on regional connectivity, clean energy and climate finance.

According to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, Rafiyev attended a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Afghanistan, where he expressed support for the group’s efforts, Caliber.Az reports.

He also highlighted Afghanistan’s potential to become a connectivity hub through greater cooperation in trade, transit and energy.

At the Solutions Dialogue on Energy Transitions, Rafiyev outlined Azerbaijan’s renewable energy targets and plans to develop the country into a regional hub for clean energy connectivity.

During the Solutions Dialogue on Climate Finance, the deputy foreign minister stressed the need to make climate finance more accessible, affordable and effective for developing countries. He also called for stronger system-wide coordination to ensure the Baku Finance Goal leads to meaningful implementation.

Rafiyev also participated in panel discussions on connectivity, finance and energy along the Middle Corridor at the 7th Caspian Business Forum.

He highlighted Azerbaijan’s infrastructure development achievements, increasing transit and trade volumes along the Middle Corridor, and progress under the TRIPP initiative, the Foreign Ministry said in a post on X.
