Azerbaijan's diplomatic efforts for global peace receive international recognition
Azerbaijan's diplomatic efforts to promote global peace and stability have received significant international recognition, underlined by a recent statement praising the country’s role on the world stage.
The praise came in a Joint Statement adopted after the first Strategic Meeting of the Network of Countries Affected by Climate Change and Conflict which was held last month in Abu Dhabi, Caliber.Az reports via domestic media sources.
The COP29 Presidency's statement emphasized that the adoption of this document is an important milestone in the development of the platform established at the UN Climate Conference in Baku in November 2024.
The Strategic Meeting, organized with Azerbaijan’s support as the COP29 President and under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together representatives from countries vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and conflict, as well as international organizations and financial institutions. The gathering focused on key issues such as climate financing and strengthening national capacities to deal with the interconnected challenges of climate and conflict.
The Joint Statement and Roadmap, adopted as outcomes of the Abu Dhabi meeting, lay the groundwork for a unified stance among participating countries and outline the implementation of specific projects aimed at addressing these challenges. The document also conveyed deep appreciation to Azerbaijan for initiating the "Baku Call for Climate Action for Peace, Assistance, and Recovery." This initiative has been recognized for its potential to drive cooperation in crucial areas like humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, peacebuilding, and climate policy.
The document further highlighted the pivotal role of the Baku Center for Climate and Peace Actions, noting its significance as a unique platform that facilitates collaboration across these critical sectors.
Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency has committed to continuing its support for the Network, expanding partnerships through the Baku Center, and promoting initiatives that embody the principle of "Solidarity for a Green World."
The Network of Countries Affected by Climate Change and Conflict was established during the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Baku.
The Baku Center for Climate and Peace Actions operates under the auspices of Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, furthering its efforts to foster global collaboration for peace and climate action.
