Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry expresses condolences to Montenegro following deadly attack in Cetinje

The  Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has expressed its heartfelt condolences to Montenegro in light of a tragic armed attack in the town of Cetinje that resulted in numerous casualties.

The Azerbaijani ministry conveyed its sympathies for the victims of the attack and extended its wishes for the swift recovery of those injured, Caliber.Az reports.

According to a statement posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on its official social media page on X, the ministry expressed profound sadness over the deadly incident. "We are deeply saddened by the deadly attack in the town of Cetinje, Montenegro, that resulted in dozen people killed and injured. We express heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish the soonest recovery of injured," the statement read.

The attack occurred on the evening of January 1, when a dispute at a local bar escalated into violence. Armed assailant Aco Martinović, aged 45, opened fire, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals, including two children. Several others were injured in the shooting.

In response to the tragic event, Montenegro has declared a three-day mourning period to honour the victims of the mass killing in Cetinje. Authorities continue their investigation into the incident, as the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives.
