Azerbaijan’s MFA: Landmines continue to claim lives
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement following a mine incident causing the death of an employee of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action in the Fuzuli district.
Sharing a post on X, the ministry extended sincere condolences to his family, relatives, and colleagues, Caliber.Az reports.
The statement says landmines continue to pose a deadly threat in Azerbaijan.
“On April 14, an employee of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan was killed after triggering an anti-tank landmine in the Fuzuli district, in the village of Ashaghy Abdurakhmanly,” the ministry said.
The post reads “This tragedy is a stark reminder of the continued human cost of landmines and the dangers faced every day by those working to make liberated areas safe.”
It said that since the end of the 2020 war, 422 Azerbaijani citizens have fallen victim to landmines.
“There is an urgent need for enhanced international support for comprehensive demining efforts,” the ministry concluded.
