Azerbaijan’s parliament speaker eyes cooperation with global tolerance council head
Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, who is visiting Baku to attend the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States.
According to Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Press and Public Relations Department, the meeting highlighted the important role of the Parliamentary Union in strengthening relations among Muslim countries and their legislative bodies, local media reports.
Both sides expressed confidence that the 20th session of the organisation, being held in Baku, would be successfully organised and would contribute to the future work of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).
The discussions also focused on cooperation between the Milli Majlis and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, the parliamentary arm of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace.
It was noted that a memorandum of understanding signed between the Milli Majlis and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace provides a framework for expanding bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting further addressed other issues of mutual interest, according to the statement.
