Azerbaijan is represented by a pavilion at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
The national pavilion established under the joint organisation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan within COP28, which will run from November 30 to December 12, will cover the theme "Pioneering Sustainable solutions for Climate Resilience", Trend reports.
The concept of the pavilion is based on the rich flora and fauna of Azerbaijan.
The interactive pavilion will provide information on Azerbaijan's climate change policy, the Azerbaijani government's measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other projects in this field.
Azerbaijan has reaffirmed its commitment to reduce heat-generating emissions by 35 per cent by 2030 and to reach 40 per cent by 2050. Fulfilment of commitments under the Paris Agreement and active work in this direction is a priority issue.
The pavilion features "Energy Transition", "Environmental Map", "Renewable Energy Sources", "Smart Village" and other sections. "Azerbaijan Environment Map" displays national parks, climate types, renewable energy, water resources and green concept in an interactive format. Each theme presents a map of Azerbaijan with detailed information on existing infrastructure and future projects.
The installation in the pavilion also covers the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, climate initiatives and mine action. It presents information on animals and plants included in the Red Book and endangered in Azerbaijan, on environmental projects implemented by NGOs and governmental structures, on the mine problem in Azerbaijan and its environmental consequences.
In the "Plant a Tree" section of the pavilion, tree planting initiatives being implemented in Azerbaijan, especially in Karabakh, to restore the ecological balance disturbed during the Armenian occupation are presented. Every visitor to the pavilion can also join a tree planting initiative (pine or olive) by submitting a digital application via tablet, thus supporting the restoration of Karabakh's ecological balance. These trees will be planted in the Karabakh region - the city of Fuzuli.
