Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan discuss strategic ties during Tashkent meeting PHOTO / UPDATED

Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation during a meeting in Tashkent on June 16.

Asadov, who is on a working visit to Uzbekistan, conveyed greetings from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Mirziyoyev, according to a statement from Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers.

The Uzbek leader expressed his gratitude and asked that his own greetings be passed on to Aliyev.

The two sides welcomed the steady development of relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, describing ties as advancing successfully within the framework of a strategic partnership and alliance.

During the talks, they reviewed prospects for expanding cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, transport and logistics, energy, and humanitarian affairs.

Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ali Asadov arrived in Uzbekistan on a working visit, landing at Tashkent’s Humo Airport, according to local media.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev, Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov, Deputy Foreign Minister Olimjon Abdullaev, and Deputy Mayor of Tashkent Azizkhon Shavkatov received Asadov at the airport.

During the visit, the Azerbaijani prime minister will take part in the Tashkent International Investment Forum, one of Uzbekistan’s key economic platforms, bringing together government representatives, international organisations, financial institutions and business leaders.

He is also expected to hold meetings focused on expanding Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan cooperation in trade, investment, transport, industrial cooperation and other areas.
