Azerbaijan's victory in Karabakh gave strong impulse to Turkic World

13 April 2025 09:36

Azerbaijan's victory in Karabakh has given a powerful impulse to the entire Turkic world, said Binali Yıldırım, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), in an interview with Report, as he assessed Azerbaijan's role within the organization.

He emphasized that although the OTS has existed as an international structure for only 15 years, its level of activity is comparable to 50 years of progress, Caliber.Az reports.

"Türkiye and Azerbaijan play a special role and have made significant contributions to the organization's work. Over the years, we have had no disagreements within the framework of the OTS."

According to Yıldırım, one of the reasons for the close cooperation between the two countries is the absence of a language barrier:

"A common language brings Türkiye and Azerbaijan closer together. Moreover, both countries use the Latin alphabet. For the past two years, we’ve been actively working on introducing a unified alphabet for the other Turkic states to facilitate mutual understanding. As communication strengthens, we hope our ties will grow even deeper. This will help enhance cultural connections and strengthen prosperity."

Yıldırım underlined that international organizations such as the OSCE and the UN had delayed resolving the issue for 30 years, while Türkiye’s moral support played a key role in Azerbaijan’s path to victory:

"Azerbaijan’s victory in Karabakh breathed new life into the Turkic world. In this context, I fully agree with the saying, ‘A Turk has no friend but a Turk.’ By strengthening Turkic unity, we reinforce our mutual support. The next steps will focus on enhancing regional cooperation."

He also noted that next year, Azerbaijan will assume the chairmanship of the OTS, and an informal summit of the organization will be held in Budapest this May:

"We must not stop — only move forward," he urged.
