Azerbaijan safely receives 2,057 evacuees fleeing Iran
Between 8:00 AM on February 28 and 6:00 PM on March 9, a total of 2,057 people were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
Of those evacuated, 362 were Azerbaijani citizens, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Foreign nationals among the evacuees included 594 Chinese, 291 Russians, 174 Tajiks, 137 Pakistanis, 57 Omanis, 44 Italians, 32 Indonesians, 26 Spaniards, 29 Iranians, 18 Saudis, 17 Japanese, 16 French, 15 Germans, 13 Georgians, 12 each from Hungary, Uzbekistan, and Poland, 10 each from Bulgaria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Nigeria, 8 Brazilians, 9 Britons, 8 Kazakhs, 10 Belarusians, 6 each from the UAE and Slovakia, 8 Canadians, 6 Belgians, 5 each from Serbia, Afghanistan, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Austria, 6 Romanians, 4 each from Bahrain, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Türkiye, Kuwait, and Bangladesh, 3 each from the Philippines, Qatar, Mexico, Finland, and Croatia, 2 each from Nepal, Lebanon, Yemen, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan, India, Cyprus, Slovenia, Sweden, and the United States, and one citizen each from Australia, Tunisia, South Africa, the Maldives, Myanmar, Cuba, Vatican City, Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Latvia, and Egypt.
All evacuees safely crossed the border after completing necessary procedures and have entered Azerbaijan.
The evacuation process is being conducted in full compliance with procedural rules and safety protocols. The Astara border crossing has been fully equipped to ensure comfort and security for evacuees, and operations are continuing in stages throughout the day.
