Azerbaijan secures membership in UN Economic and Social Council For 2025-2027 term
Azerbaijan has once again been elected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) during the recent elections held at the UN General Assembly.
According to Report, with 148 votes in favour, Azerbaijan's position was affirmed.
Notably, ECOSOC serves as a key entity facilitating collaboration between the UN and its specialized agencies in economic and social domains. It oversees the activities of 14 specialized UN agencies, along with their functional and regional commissions dedicated to economic and social matters.
The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
The UN Charter established ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations.
