Azerbaijan set to become key hub for ICESCO’s regional initiatives
The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) has announced plans to establish a regional office in Azerbaijan, marking a significant step in the organization's efforts to strengthen cooperation in the region.
ICESCO Director General, Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, confirmed the development, stating that the new office would serve as a vital link between Azerbaijan and Central Asia, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"This office will enhance our engagement with the region and further our mission to promote educational, scientific, and cultural exchanges," he said.
AlMalik also highlighted the historical significance of ICESCO's involvement in Azerbaijan, noting that the organization was the first international body to visit the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
"We have worked closely with various institutions in Azerbaijan, collaborating in multiple sectors to advance our shared goals," he remarked.
The opening of the office represents the strong relations of cooperation and partnership that unite the organization and Azerbaijan in ICESCO’s fields of competence and the Organization’s strategic orientations, which accords special importance to safeguarding and valorizing heritage, investing in modern technology in all fields, consolidating the values of peace and civilizational dialogue and youth and women capacity-building.
Azerbaijan’s strategic location and its growing role in regional and international affairs make it an ideal hub for ICESCO’s expanded operations, which are expected to benefit educational, cultural, and scientific initiatives throughout the region.
