Azerbaijan slams Armenian premier's "peace proposal" as veil for continued territorial ambitions “Mr. Pashinyan, let your deeds speak louder than words”

09 January 2025 17:59

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Aykhan Hajizada, has sharply criticized Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's recent “proposal to establish lasting peace in the region”.

In a responsive post on X, Hajizada dismissed Pashinyan's proposal as inconsistent with Armenia's actions, Caliber.Az reports.

“So, what does it all really mean? Mr. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, let your deeds speak louder than words. Interestingly, your “peace-loving narrative” avoids the most important pillar of establishing lasting peace and stability in the region, which is the respect of territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. If Armenia indeed is interested in building peace with its neighbors, why do you, by all means, refuse and decline to start the process of renouncing the claims to territories you all call as “Western Armenia” and “Nagorno Karabakh Republic,” as enshrined within your Constitution and national legislation? Sorry, but your argumentation cannot be considered a confirmation of the “good intentions” of Armenia,” Hajizada replied to Pashinyan.

To recall, earlier on January 9, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan proposed a set of conditions for “lasting regional peace.”

The first three parts of Pashinyan’s conditions are as follows: 1. “Western Azerbaijan is Qazax, Tovuz, Aghstafa, Gadabay, Dashkasan, Kelbajar, Lachin, Kubadli, Zangelan. There is no Western Azerbaijan beyond this, and cannot be. If they really want to search for it elsewhere, then we can consider Nakhchivan as Western Azerbaijan too." 2. "Western Armenia is Armavir, Talin, Maralik. There is no Western Armenia beyond this, and cannot be." 3. "Eastern Armenia is Ijevan, Berd, Chambarak, Vardenis, Jermuk, Goris, Kapan, Nerkin Hand, Nrnadzor. There is no Eastern Armenia beyond this, and cannot be.”
