Azerbaijan, Slovenia discuss regional role, bilateral cooperation
An Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation visited Slovenia to discuss the countries’ roles in regional and international cooperation and to strengthen bilateral ties.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Austria and Slovenia, Rovshan Sadigbayli, wrote on X that the delegation was led by Agalar Valiyev, Chair of the Azerbaijan-Slovenia Interparliamentary Friendship Group, and member Heydar Asadov, Caliber.Az reports.
During the visit, the Azerbaijani parliamentarians met with Slovenian National Assembly President Urška Klakočar Zupančič and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon. They also held talks with the head and members of the friendship group in Slovenia’s National Assembly, and with Deputy Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee Dušan Stojanović.
“The discussions focused on bilateral political and economic relations and regional topics, the role Azerbaijan and Slovenia are playing in their geography and beyond, and the parliamentary dimension of cooperation between our countries,” Sadigbayli wrote.
The ambassador highlighted special attention to the memory of Mehdi Huseynzadeh– Mikhaylo, a figure connecting Azerbaijan and Slovenia through his heroism during World War II, symbolising an important historical bond between the two nations.
Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs also reported on the meeting, noting that the sides discussed increasing mutual trade and cooperation in the energy sector.
