Azerbaijan Supreme Court hails judicial improvements countrywide

Azerbaijani Supreme Court Chairman Inam Karimov has said reforms in Azerbaijan's judicial and legal system have always been at the centre of the state's attention.

He made the remarks at a meeting with the Azerbaijan Bar Association as part of the “Themis” dialogue platform, Report said.

Karimov noted that since independence Azerbaijan has paid special attention to the basic principles of statehood - the rule of law, human rights and the protection of democratic values.

The judicial and legal reforms whose foundations were laid by the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, are being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.

Thanks to the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan’s judicial and legal system, significant changes have taken place. New courts have been set up in the regions, their powers have been expanded, material resources have been improved and the judiciary has been renewed through selection on the basis of transparent procedures.
