Azerbaijan to attend Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh at ambassadorial level Middle East crisis on agenda
Azerbaijan will be represented at the informal Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh at the ambassadorial level.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the country's delegation will be headed by Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Shahin Abdullayev, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Notably, the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit convened in Saudi Arabia on November 11, focusing on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, particularly Israel's military actions.
Arab and Muslim leaders, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, have gathered in Riyadh to discuss the violence and advocate for a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The meeting follows last month’s announcement of an international alliance for a two-state solution.
Discussions are centred on condemning Israeli aggression in Palestinian territories and Lebanon, with a specific focus on the devastating toll of the conflict. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the urgency of ending the violence in Gaza, calling for an immediate cessation of Israeli actions he described as genocidal.
Thus, the summit marks a year since a similar meeting in Riyadh, where Arab and Islamic leaders condemned Israel's actions in Gaza as "barbaric."
In addition to diplomatic appeals, the summit also serves as a platform for continued calls for an end to hostilities and efforts to address the broader regional instability exacerbated by cross-border tensions with Hezbollah.
