Azerbaijan, Türkiye discuss closer military ties during high-level defence talks Photo

Azerbaijani Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov held talks with Turkish defence officials in Ankara this week, as part of an official visit aimed at deepening military cooperation between the two allied nations.

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence, Hasanov met with Haluk Görgün, Chairman of Türkiye’s Defence Industry Committee, on the sidelines of the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF-2025), Caliber.Az reports.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral military cooperation, highlighting the strategic partnership based on “friendship, brotherhood, and alliance” between Baku and Ankara.

Officials underscored that strengthening defence ties remains a key priority for the leaders of both countries.

The discussions also covered broader prospects for defence collaboration and other areas of mutual interest, amid growing regional security coordination between the two nations.

Earlier, Zakir Hasanov held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler, during a visit to Istanbul for the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025).

Discussions centred on enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence, including military affairs, technical collaboration, and education. Both officials highlighted the strategic importance of IDEF 2025 in deepening ties between Baku and Ankara.

The ministers also exchanged views on regional security and other shared concerns. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on bolstering mutual military security.
