Western Azerbaijan Community demands fair treatment in return rights debate
The Western Azerbaijan Community has called on the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights to recognize and support the right of Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands in Armenia.
The appeal comes in response to Commissioner Michael O'Flaherty’s recent visit to Armenia, during which he explicitly highlighted the right of Armenians who voluntarily left the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan to return to their homeland, Caliber.Az reports.
Commenting on the matter, the Western Azerbaijan Community noted: “We have repeatedly submitted appeals to various Council of Europe institutions, yet, for reasons unknown, they have not taken a position regarding the right of Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands in Armenia. We urge the Commissioner not to repeat the mistakes of his predecessors and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, to reject discriminatory policies, and to issue a public statement affirming our right to return.”
