Azerbaijan, Türkiye explore strengthening military cooperation VIDEO
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, has met with a delegation led by the Commander of the Turkish Air Force, Army General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, who is on an official visit to the country.
The Turkish delegation began their visit by paying respect to national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and prominent ophthalmologist and academician, Zarifa Aliyeva, at the Alley of Honour. They also visited the Alley of Martyrs and the Turkish Martyrs' Memorial, where they laid wreaths and flowers and commemorated those killed for Azerbaijan’s independence, Caliber.Az reports citing Azerbaijan's Defence Ministry.
At a meeting held at the Ministry of Defence, Colonel General briefed the delegation on the current operational situation along the Azerbaijani-Armenian conditional border, emphasizing that Armenia's rearmament poses a significant challenge to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Highlighting the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, which is grounded in friendship and fraternity, Hasanov stressed the importance of further advancing military cooperation between the two nations. He also took pride in the continuous development of Türkiye's defence industry.
General Kadıoğlu acknowledged the high level of military relations, emphasizing the importance of expanding mutual exchange of experience between the two countries.
The discussion also centered around the need for joint analysis of recent global conflicts and the study of modern warfare techniques. Both sides exchanged views on military and military-technical cooperation, as well as regional security. They noted the positive outcomes of the Azerbaijani-Turkish High-Level Military Dialogue, which has been ongoing for 15 years.
Following the meeting, the First Deputy Minister of Defence, Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, along with Colonel General Bakhtiyar Ersay, Adviser to the Minister of Defence, continued the talks with the Turkish delegation. They discussed the prospects for military cooperation and emphasized the importance of joint exercises to promote experience exchange and ensure interoperability between the armed forces of both countries.
As part of the visit, the Turkish delegation also toured the Azerbaijan Air Force’s headquarters. Following an official welcoming ceremony, Lieutenant General Namig Islamzada, Deputy Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan, Commander of the Air Force, met with the Turkish delegation. The meeting focused on ongoing reforms within the Azerbaijani Army, the development of military relations, and the continuation of cooperation in military education to train highly skilled personnel. The delegation was also briefed on the operations at the Air Force’s Central Command Post.
