Azerbaijan, Türkiye hold talks on expanding defence ties
The First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, held talks with a Turkish military delegation led by General Metin Tokel, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence, Valiyev highlighted the steady development of Azerbaijani-Turkish military cooperation and stressed the importance of further expanding strategic ties between the two allied countries.
The meeting also placed emphasis on the joint tactical flight exercises TurAz Qartalı-2026, currently being conducted in Azerbaijan with the participation of service personnel from both countries. Valiyev underlined the significance of such drills in strengthening bilateral relations and contributing to regional security.
General Tokel, for his part, said it was essential to maintain reciprocal visits to further broaden military cooperation and reinforce the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Both sides noted that joint and multinational exercises involving modern technologies play an important role in enhancing the professionalism of military personnel and improving their practical skills.
The discussions also covered various aspects of defence cooperation, with the two delegations exchanging views on joint activities and other matters of mutual interest.
