Azerbaijan, UK discuss Baku-Yerevan peace process
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has discussed urgent issues of the Azerbaijani-British bilateral agenda with Leo Docherty, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
During a phone talk on February 6, 2023, the sides discussed the latest situation in the region and the prospects of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Foreign Ministry.
Bayramov expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations between the two countries and noted the importance of official contacts and visits.
The minister informed the British side of the recent situation around the Lachin road, and underlined that the protests against the illegal economic activity and misuse of the Lachin road are a legitimate right of the Azerbaijani people.
Bayramov said there is no reason to complain about the blockade and the humanitarian situation, adding that humanitarian cargoes are transported and that about 2,000 cars have passed through the road so far.
Docherty was informed of Armenia's failure to fulfil its commitments, as well as the obstacles and several provocations it created for the normalisation process in the post-conflict period, the boycott of the last Moscow meeting on the peace agreement.
Azerbaijan, as a state promoting a peace agenda and carrying out reconstruction work in the region, has an interest in the normalisation process, Bayramov continued.
Docherty, for his part, condemned the armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran and expressed his condolences. He said it was important to remove the difficulties hindering peace in the region and to resume negotiations.
