Azerbaijan, Ukraine FMs hold wide-ranging talks on security, partnership

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held an expanded-format meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during his official visit to Ukraine, where the two sides discussed strategic partnership and regional security, according to a post by Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry on X.

The talks focused on a broad range of bilateral and regional issues, reaffirming the countries' commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors, Caliber.Az reports.

“Ministers reviewed progress in implementing the agreements reached by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Azerbaijan.

They discussed the Azerbaijan-Ukraine strategic partnership, trade, energy, investment, transport, humanitarian and multilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international security issues.

They emphasized the importance of regular high-level contacts and the role of bilateral mechanisms, including political consultations, the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, and the Business Council, in further expanding cooperation.

Ministers exchanged views on regional developments and current international challenges, in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. FM Bayramov reiterated the importance of the earliest cessation of hostilities, paving the way for a settlement through diplomatic means, based on strict adherence to international law. Azerbaijan’s consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders was highlighted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine conveyed his deepest condolences over the deaths and injuries of Azerbaijani citizens in the Black Sea and Azov Sea as a result of the ongoing military hostilities, extending his sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

Ministers also highlighted Azerbaijan’s humanitarian assistance exceeding US$50 million, reconstruction projects in Irpin, rehabilitation programs for Ukrainian children.

FM Bayramov further informed his counterpart on the current situation in the South Caucasus, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the territories liberated from occupation,” the Foreign Ministry said.
