Azerbaijan, UN pledge continued partnership in rule of law, security at high-level meeting

11 April 2025 19:57

Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev, has met with Alexander Zuev, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions, to discuss the ongoing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN.

The meeting highlighted the productive collaboration between the two parties, with Azerbaijan's prosecutor general underscoring the importance of the 2024 COP29 conference held in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The conference was organised under the leadership of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. Azerbaijan's prosecutor general expressed appreciation for the event’s success and its contributions to addressing climate change.

Zuev commended Azerbaijan for its excellent organisation of COP29, particularly for the plenary session that focused on the role of law enforcement agencies in combating climate change.

This session was conducted in cooperation with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UAE Ministry of Interior. The two officials also discussed preparations for COP30, which is scheduled to take place in Brazil in 2025. Both sides expressed interest in further strengthening trilateral cooperation among Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Brazil. The conversation also turned to the potential involvement of Azerbaijani prosecutors in UN-led training programmes and missions aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge within international legal frameworks.
