Azerbaijan, UNICEF strengthen cooperation on children’s rights and protection
Tofig Musayev, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, held a meeting with Regina De Dominicis, the UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the areas of child protection and the promotion of children’s rights.
According to the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission, the meeting focused on the mutually beneficial partnership between Azerbaijan and UNICEF, Caliber.Az reports referring to local media.
They addressed ways to further enhance efforts in protecting children and advancing their rights, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that children and youth remain at the forefront of climate action following COP29.
In addition to this discussion, Ambassador Musayev had previously met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Musayev also held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Yıldız.
According to the Turkish Permanent Mission to the UN, the two diplomats met at the Turkish House in New York for a courtesy visit, during which Musayev expressed his condolences to Ambassador Yıldız.
This meeting followed a devastating fire that occurred on January 21 at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Türkiye’s Bolu province. The fire tragically claimed the lives of 78 people and left around 50 injured, with 238 guests present at the time. In the aftermath of the disaster, Türkiye declared a day of mourning on January 22 to honour the victims.
