“Azerbaijan welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire and hostage agreement in Gaza.
We hope all parties will respect the agreement and sufferings will be ended.
Azerbaijan supports the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in line with respective UNSC resolutions, and will continue working with the international community towards that goal,” the post by the ministry reads.
Hamas has agreed to a draft ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages, according to two officials involved in the negotiations.
Mediator Qatar stated that the talks have reached the “closest point” yet to finalizing the deal. The proposed agreement has been confirmed by both an Egyptian official and a Hamas representative. An Israeli official indicated that while significant progress has been made, final details are still being worked out. The plan is expected to be submitted to the Israeli Cabinet for approval.
The United States, Egypt, and Qatar have been working for over a year to mediate an end to the 15-month conflict, which was triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack. The negotiations also aim to secure the release of hostages taken during that assault. Currently, around 100 Israelis remain in captivity in Gaza, with military officials estimating that at least a third of them are dead.
