Azerbaijan welcomes experts to monitor implementation of anti-corruption strategies

19 March 2025 19:47

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office has announced that experts from the Anti-Corruption Network of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) visited Baku to discuss Azerbaijan’s progress in implementing anti-corruption measures.

The visit was made as part of the ongoing monitoring of the Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan, a key framework for addressing corruption. The delegation was warmly received by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The discussions also focused on the steps taken to adhere to the recommendations put forward by the organisation. The experts were given an overview of Azerbaijan's policy aimed at preventing conflicts of interest, enhancing transparency in public procurement, and fostering a business environment that encourages fair practices.

Additionally, the meeting covered the mechanisms in place for recovering assets obtained through criminal activity. Following the visit, the experts will compile a report based on the findings, which is expected to be presented for further discussion in July 2025.

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation established in 1961 to promote economic cooperation and development among its member countries. With 38 member countries, including most of the world's advanced economies, the OECD works to foster policies that improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world.

The organisation's primary goals include promoting sustainable economic growth, improving living standards, enhancing employment opportunities, and strengthening international trade. It provides a platform for governments to discuss and coordinate policy, conduct research, and share best practices. The OECD also plays a crucial role in setting international standards on various issues such as education, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. Based in Paris, France, the OECD's work extends globally, with numerous collaborations with non-member countries and international organisations.
